Daily journal exercise. Mindset and wellbeing.
When fac ed with a challenge in life, we tend to focus on the negative aspects, or the things we lack. When we keep our attention on what we are lacking, we continue to experience it. Focusing on lack is a very effective way to delay getting the thing you want. This exercise serves to change your perspective by turning the tables. Within the same context where you are struggling, the exercise asks you to go back through your past wins and achievements, as well as the resources you currently have that you may not be giving full attention to. The end result is a shift from a position of lack, to a position of resourcefulness. When you are appreciating what you already have, you then clearly state what you would like to experience next. The difference is now you are thinking about it from a position of fullness.
‘What is an area/context in my life I would like to transform?’
E.g. – My financial income.
‘What have I already accomplished in this context?’
‘What do I already have in this context?’
‘Who do I already know that can help me?’
‘What is already in my life around this context?’
‘What resources do I already have at my disposal?’
Make an exhaustive list of everything you can think of around these five questions relative to the context you have chosen. Continue to answer this question until you experience a shift in your perception in regard to your current situation, your ability to change your situation, or an appreciation for what you already have. Only when you reach a place of genuine appreciation for your past and current circumstances can you move on.
What would you like to be experiencing instead?
In a brief, concise manner describe what you would like to be experiencing in the future. Be cautious not to set wild, unsupported fantasies. Be sure to set specific and realistic goals. After completing your desires for the future, detach from them and continue with your day. By stating them from a place of grace and then letting them go, you will start to attract more opportunities into your life to make them happen.
